The restored, historic Lemon House Tavern sits adjacent to the top of Incline 6 at the summit of the Allegheny Portage Railroad, which was one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century. The Engine House Interpretive Building and the Park’s adjacent Visitor’s Center present hands on exhibits and full scale models of the equipment. An admission fee is required for the interior facilities and other events, but the posted clue coordinates are accessible at no cost.
The Summit area of the Park also offers picnicking, hiking and cross country ski trails, and seasonal presentations are made at the outdoor amphitheater. A hiking only trail extends downhill from the Skew Arch Bridge along the corridor to the Mule Shoe Curve and continues as a “rail-trail” on the trace to the Foot of Incline 10. The APR corridor from South Fork to Johnstown follows a mix of rail trail format and marked street routing.
The Allegheny Portage Railroad was constructed in 1834 and extended from a canal basin in Hollidaysburg to one in Johnstown. It consisted of 10 inclined planes to raise and lower canal boats over the mountain, connected by a series of flatter railroad sections. Your adventure begins at the Skew Arch Bridge which carried roadway traffic over Plane 6. Answers to the clues required to find the cache are found on the numerous displays and plaques found here and at the posted reference points.

The cache is located just outside of the Park boundaries, but accessible from within the Park.
