Geocache Description:

A beautiful paddle around Mohawk Lake and the Brantford Channel. We have placed some new caches for you to enjoy.

78viper and I LOVE kayaking. This is a fantastic area to do so, as there is rarely any current or wave action, and the only others you will meet on the water are other kayakers, canoers or fishermen. We have placed 9 caches on Mohawk Lake and the Brantford Channel for you to enjoy.

Mohawk Lake was once a thriving port, where you could find steamships transporting goods. However, over the years it became very polluted, and in the 90's was considered to be a toxic body of water. Thanks to a grant ford both the provincial and federal governments, Mohawk Lake has been brought back to life, and is now a great spot for a paddle or fishing. People have recorded catching catfish, pike, smallmouth and largemough bass, carp, crappie, panfish and the occasional perch in these waters. While placing these caches, we could actually see the bass jumping and carp in the water when they flicked their tails. We both agree that this is now a fantastic place to paddle.

These caches were are placed by kayak, and are designed to be found in a kayak or canoe. There is no portaging, and no standing in your boat required for any of these caches unless the water is extremely low. This is our type of kayak caching - designed to be water park n' grabs. The caches are all hanging out over the water. You will not be able to wade to these caches as the water under the caches is extremely deep (deeper than our paddles, which are over 6 ft long). Swimming is not recommended in this lake as there is lots of algae and debris in the water. There are a couple you could climb to, maybe, but it is not advised.

We have used a variety of containers here and tried to place them in a manor that most cachers will be able to enjoy. We really hope you enjoy the paddle.

This one was named because Turbo chose to jump out of the kayak and go for a swim near this one. It's something we will always remember.
The cache is a silver bison hanging out over the water. BYOP.
