Geocache Description:

Such a quite relaxing place to stop.  Oh, sometimes you are greeted by a couple large dogs that LOVE to run thru the wet bog.  They were very friendly - I just told them to get away.  Enjoy the scenery.  Just imagine in the early 1900's you would have only been traveling 20 mph on this Yellowstone Trail

well the dnr removed my really cool cache; after jumping thru hoops to fill out their permit :( ~~ it has a substitute up that sticks out like a sore thumb. The Yellowstone Trail began in South Dakota in 1912. It quickly expanded to run from the Twin Cities (Minnesota) to the Yellowstone National Park in Montana. While the intent of the founders was to create a highway from coast to coast the marking of the whole route took considerable time. In 1914 it was formally extended to the Idaho border in the west and to Chicago in 1915. By 1917 the entire route was firmly established. Want to study the roads that were used go to www.YellowstoneTrail.info to see a state by state listing.
