Once upon a time, there was a track in the area where horses raced week after week. Often the same horses ran against each other. Two horses in particular, Mable and Gable, regularly ran head to head, and usually finished at the front of the pack.

Over time, they became friends, and decided to form an alliance. Mable and Gable agreed that if the two of them were leading a race, they would time it so that they finished in a tie. So over the following months, as their friendship blossomed, Mable and Gable went on winning races in a dead heat.

Then one day, just as the two buddies approached the finish line, Gable jumped ahead and beat Mable by a nose. Later, when Mable and Gable were back at the stable, Mable stomped over to Gable, “Hey, what gives? We’re buds, we’re supposed to tie every race together!”

Gable replied “I’m sorry, I didn’t do that on purpose. Near the end of the race I got a pinch in my back, and it made me jump ahead.”

Just then a greyhound walked into the stable “Hey, I came over from the dog track next door. I overheard what you were saying, and the same thing happened to me. My friend and I were finishing races together, but today I got a pinch in my back that made me jump ahead just at the end of the race. Now my buddy is pissed off at me.”

“Wow! That’s amazing!” exclaimed Mable.

“I know!” responded Gable, “A talking dog!”
