The early seine fishermen who pulled huge catches of salmon returning through the mouth of the Columbia found the area here ideal for a winter mending grounds for their nets, where holes were patched, nets were re-tarred, and good natured banter was exchanged as they prepared for another record season. The tarred twine they used to mend their nets eventually became a symbol of the flat sandy ground where they worked -- a place called "Stringtown".
Please be sure to park on the bay side of the road and obey the signs posted along the airstrip. You'll find the cache down near the high tide line. Please do not remove the cord that is securing the cache container so it doesn't float away during winter storms.
