Geocache Description:

About one 1 kilometer short offset (multi)geocache which presents some beautiful
hill forest nature of the Nuuksio national park.( 2 km there and back if a day trip. )

The Siberian flying squirrel (Pteromys volans) is the only species of flying squirrel
living in Europe. It is considered vulnerable within the European Union where it can
be found only in Finland, Estonia and Latvia.

Nuuksio area is well-known of the dense population of Siberian flying squirrels. The
official emblem of the Nuuksio National Park shows the Siberian flying squirrel for a
good reason.

First (1) stage / Starting point:

You should find a small wooden bridge which goes over little forest stream.

Third (3) stage:

Dead tree standing together with those living ones. Notice that the satellite signal

Fourth (4) stage:

Another grey rampike to look for those flying squirrel prints.

Other noticeable facts regarding this particular setup:


  • Your clothing can get dirty.

  • The trail is quite slippery after rain.

  • There will be some steep elevation changes.

  • Keep your dogs and very small children leashed.

  • Check the rules and regulations in the hint section before area access.

  • There is an info board with a map and rule summary near the parking place.

  • The wider local forest area is very nice for picking edible mushrooms and berries. ;-)
