Geocache Description:

The Wellfleet Health and Conservation Department has placed a number of caches around Wellfleet to help locals and tourists alike make it out to some of Wellfleet’s many beautiful trails and recreational areas.

The Drummer Cove trail system is unique in that it follows a historical path taken by school children from Pleasant Point where their parents would drop them off from their fishing boats up to Pond Hill School. The Pond Hill School was in session from 1857 to 1800 and is now being renovated to be used as a community space. You will see it if you complete the full trail. The trail follows both the edge of the salt marsh (try not to step on the fiddler crabs!) and through the oak pine forested upland. It then follows Pine Ave through to Pond Ave. There are plenty of benches throughout the trail to sit, rest, and enjoy the views.

Please stay on and near the trail! The cache is accessible without wandering too far into the underbrush where the vegetation does bite (mainly green briar and poison ivy). Also, being in New England, we advise you to check yourself for ticks after your geocaching adventure!
