Geocache Description:

The Wellfleet Health and Conservation Department and Wellfleet Conservation Trust have placed a number of caches around Wellfleet to help locals and tourists alike make it out to some of Wellfleet’s many beautiful trails and recreational areas.

This trail system was a joint effort by the Town of Wellfleet and the Wellfleet Conservation Trust to preserve contiguous parcels of land. This is the largest public conservation property on the outer Cape.  The trail winds through oak pine forest before hitting salt marsh. The furthest point along the trail, Whale Bone Point, is a popular nesting site for terrapin turtles. It is possible to see across the Fox Island Marsh to Old Wharf Point and Lieutenant’s Island. Watch your step for fiddler crabs and diamondback terrapin nests!

Please stay near the trail! The cache is accessible without wandering too far into the underbrush where the vegetation does bite (mainly green briar and poison ivy). Also, being in New England, we advise you to check yourself for ticks after your geocaching adventure!
