Georgia on my mind Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Marko Ramius: I was reviewing caches in the area that appear to need maintenance or have been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time. I see that this one hasn't had a status update from the owner in the past few months. Obviously, we give extra time when a cache must be disabled for reasons beyond the owner's control, but it does help to have periodic updates.

Please post a note to the cache page to let us all know the status: Any plans to replace (now or in the future)? A report that the area is not yet ready for a cache placement? A simple note on the cache page just to let us know that you haven't forgotten about the cache?

Please respond on this cache page within the next 30 days. If we do not hear from you, we may conclude that the cache has been abandoned and the cache may be archived. Please be aware that caches that are archived due to a lack of communication or maintenance may not be unarchived.

Please note that since 2022 when Geocaching HQ declared it to be "The Year of the Hide," greater emphasis has been placed on "refreshing the gameboard" which means that our SoCal volunteer Reviewers will be more aggressively freeing up space for new caches to replace old ones that are not being properly maintained. In this vein, a response on the cache page from the cache owner is required to avoid archival.

Thank you for your understanding.

Geocache Description:

RPM was the recording studio of Ray Charles. Ray was not born blind. He had seven years to see the joy and sadness of this big wonderful world. As a seven-year-old child, in searching for light, he stared at the sun continuously, thereby eliminating all chances of the modern-day miracle, cornea transplants — a miracle of surgery unheard of in 1937. He died June 2004. His funeral was at the first AME church about half a mile from the studio.

RPM studio; “I liked the location,” Ray said. “People were trying to tell me to move to fancier areas like Beverly Hills. But why? What was wrong with a working-class black neighborhood? Why not put some money back into the community? Besides, the location was great — close to downtown, close to Hollywood and a straight shot to the airport. The land was reasonable and because I’d worked on the design of the building myself, I knew it would fit me to a "T".
