This cache has been archived.

jtomcat16: Based on the recent fires destroying stage 1, and the very few finds, I feel that this one is not worth rebuilding.

Well done to those who solved and managed to find the final

Context

It is 1887, and what is widely considered the crime of the decade has just been committed in London, England. The wonder of the royal jewels has been stolen. The Grand Golden Banana. It is believed to originate from the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, and some even speculate whether it was created by a divine entity, such is its beauty.

The famed Sherlock Holmes was put on the case, and using his deduction skills, he deduced that it has been smuggled out of the England to one of the British colonies. It is likely that the ship has not yet reached its destination, and is headed for Southern Africa, certain to make a stop at many of the ports in the region.

Your Story Begins.....

Word has been sent to you, the head of British intelligence based in Port Elizabeth, via rocket powered pigeon, to keep a lookout for any suspicious activity in the harbour over the coming weeks.

You set up a stake out position, and take photos every day for a week. Upon reviewing the photos at the end of the week, something strange on a particular day catches your eye. The information you find is helpful, but only gives you half of what you need to begin your physical search for the Banana.

Upon further surveillance of the harbour, you notice a ship which has stayed moored much longer than is normal. Your informants tell you that it is undergoing repairs, but nothing seems wrong with the vessel, and the captain cannot be contacted. Strange. Upon inquiries as to the captain’s whereabouts, you discover he has taken shelter at the local Sleepy Man's Inn. You go there to investigate and find him talking with a dodgy looking character in the field behind the inn. You witness a scuffle between the two, the dodgy character hits the captain over the head with a pipe and disappears.

You rush to the captains side. With his dying breath, he mumbles to you that the thief knows the location of the treasure, but will never be able to figure out the lock code on the box. All you can find is a torn up piece of paper lying next to him. It seems to be a letter of some kind.

The only other clue left at the scene is the murder weapon. You send a scout to look around the area you discovered in the previous clues. Since there is an inexplicable shortage of firearms in the office, you give him the weapon you found as protection. He returns from the scouting mission with no new info, and tells you that he forgot the weapon at the location. You promptly dismiss him and go to the location yourself to collect the weapon as it must have some clues as to the thief's, and therein, the Bananas, whereabouts....

Find the weapon and figure out the Banana's location before the thief gets it.
