Geocache Description:

Irishman's Road Trail

Located at the Irishman’s Road Recreation Site just off Highway 14 in Newport Station, these 4 caches are placed on a series of new and upgraded biking/hiking trails, with sections for beginner as well as more experienced cyclists. See the map below to get a better idea of the layout of the various loops.

The landscape along these trails is typical of the karst topography of this gypsum-rich area: expect to see sinkholes, depressions and frequent elevation changes. Some sections of the intermediate trails are very narrow and drop off dramatically — watch your step!

These trails are a more strenuous walk than the nearby Glooscap Heritage Loop.

Geocachers are encouraged to look for the 6 caches hidden on the Glooscap Heritage Loopwhich is labelled as Loop 1 on the map below. Constructed under the auspices of the West Hants Municipality on land leased by the Glooscap Heritage Archers Association, Nova Scotia's longest continuously run archery club, this trail loops through a mixed forest and is a shorter, less strenuous walk. It is possible to do the Glooscap Heritage Loop and then take a connecting trail to IRT#4.

If you do happen to go looking for the caches on the Glooscap Heritage Loop, please take a moment to read the safety reminders which are included in the cache descriptions, as this is an active archery range.
