Platt Fields Boathouse Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

yewbarrow: Sadly this appears to have vanished.

When I first placed it, it was in among fairly thick bushes. These were since cut down and cleared. The fallen tree is still there, but it's much more exposed, and the area is filled with spring flowers.

Therefore I'm not going to try and replace a cache in the same location. So I'm archiving this. Thanks to everyone who found or searched for it.

Geocache Description:

In the middle of a popular park, among the trees, a stone's throw from the boathouse.

Soon after Platt Fields became a public park in 1908, work started to create the boating lake, filled by the nearby Gore Brook. Many old photographs show how popular rowing on the lake must have been in the first half of the twentieth century, with numerous boats in use.

Nowadays, the only boats on the lake are those of the South Manchester Model Boat Club, which meets on Sunday mornings.

The boathouse is home to Platt Fields Bike Hub, which is a great place to learn how to fix your bike, buy second-hand bikes, or get in touch with the local cycling community.

The cache is a small click lock tupperware box hidden within sight of the lake. There's a hard surfaced path up to within just a few metres of the cache, after which you'll have negotiate the trees and bushes...
