This cache has been archived.

GeoJudt: This trail has had a good nearly two-year run and the coin supply has been exhausted. The caches will now begin to be archived as they go missing. I checked on this one today, and it's time has come. Thanks for visiting!

Geocache Description:

Norfolk Brick and Tile Company

John F Flynn came to Norfolk in April 1880 to start a brick factory in a location known as the “clay pit”. Built in 1883, the Norfolk Brick and Tile company produced 30,000 bricks a day! Many of the buildings on Norfolk Ave were built with bricks from the facility. After the quality of the clay declined, production ceased and in 1907 Dr. Carl J Verges bought the 4 ½ acres, tore down the buildings and converted the area to a private park. The park known as “Verges Park” was landscaped and included a lagoon, foot bridge, and gazebo. In 1933 a cave was dug and lined with comic strip adorned concrete. At the time it was used for meetings and parties and is now opened for special events only.

2016 marks the 150th Anniversary of Norfolk's founding.  The celebration continues though the end of the year!  16 geocaches have been placed at historic locations around Norfolk.  You are invited to "Uncover Norfolk's Past . . . One Cache At A Time".  Each cache contains a punch specific to that location (DO NOT REMOVE PUNCH FROM CACHE).  Sign the cache log and then use the punch to mark your game card for that location.  Game cards are available at the Norfolk Visitor's Bureau (609 W Norfolk Ave) and at the Dover office (1000 W Norfolk Ave).  When you have completed the trail and filled your card, you can turn it in for a commemorative Norfolk 150 Geocoin (while supplies last)!

If you complete the trail and turn in your game card prior to September 23rd, 2016, you will also be entered into a drawing for a brand new 50" flatscreen TV to be given away at Norfolk's Oktoberfest celebration on September 24th!! You need not be present to win the TV and no purchase is necessary.  The Norfolk 150 Trail will be open through DECEMBER 31st, 2016!

Permission has been granted for placement of this cache.  Please be respectful of the area and use stealth when necessary.

Good luck and we'll see you on the trail!
