Geocache Description:

This series has been put together for you to follow the trail of the Bootleggers “Rum Runners” in the Crowsnest Pass.

. Rum Runner Route over Phillips Pass.

The first European  to have crossed the Crowsnest Pass was prospector Michael Phillips. He travelled from British Columbia into Alberta in 1873, just north west of here. The 500 KV powerline follows his route. It was later used by Rum Runners to bring alcohol into Alberta from British Columbia during the Prohibition Era in Alberta from 1916 to 1924.. Also near this site along Crowsnest Lake the North West Mounted Police established a police camp in 1896, which was later used  during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway – Crowsnest  Line the following year.. Note the wooden footings in the river on the north west side of the current bridge which were the original footings for an earlier bridge on this Rum Runners route.

This series has been put together for you to follow the trail of the Bootleggers “Rum Runners” in the Crowsnest Pass. There are 13 Caches. All called CNP Prohibition 16-(?). 16 is for the year 2016 and the number behind that is the number of the cache.
