Geocache Description:

Top of the mountain!

This cache is not far from the top of Mynydd y Grug (which means "Heather Mountain"). If you go right to the top on a clear day, the views are amazing. Look north and you'll see the Brecon Beacons. Look east and you'll see the Severn Crossing. Southwards is the Severn Estuary, with Somerset beyond. And south-west lie Penarth and the islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm. This site is a reminder of our industrial past, as it was once a spoil heap for a local colliery. Those black stones beneath your feet are mostly shale, but there are plenty of coal pieces there too. A bit of searching, along with bit of luck and patience, could be rewarded by finding some nice fossils of 300-million-year-old plants.
