Geocache Description:

The first of 4 caches on the South Fork of the Yuba River, between Purdon crossing, and the highway 49 crossing.

First of all, Don't try this trip if the river looks like this: Cache
Rather, consider this journey if the river looks like this: Cache

Here is the water flow information for the Yuba river near the 49 bridge.
Check water levels Cubic feet /second (CFS) at Jones bar, which is a bit below highway 49, measured 48 CFS, on July 22nd, 2016, when we did the hike. Check that web site and don't go if it is much higher than that. Even with the lower water levels, these are bonafide 4.5* and 5 * terrain caches.

There are many many obstacles that are difficult to get around, you have to make lots of choices whether to hike, climb, swim, or wade. At times you have to switch back and forth between all 4 activities. It took us 8 hours to go 6 miles. We exited the canyon when we reached the Hoyt trail.

Cache is a short scramble up to a tree. You'll be looking for a duct taped preform hangar close to the trunk. On the South side of the river, about 20 feet from shore. When you stand on a rock next to it, it will be chest high. I don't know how good my location will be in that canyon, so if you have better coords, post them!
