Before Etna Township got it's name, the pioneers who settled this area called it Carthage. This cache, located in a quaint township park, is a tip of the hat to yesteryear. You're looking for a small, camo'd container in a typical location. There's room for tradables and trackables. Please replace lid tightly and replace exactly as found. Great spot to go for a walk or just to relax and enjoy nature.
The town of Carthage, since renamed Etna, was laid out by Lyman Terrell in 1832. The historic National Road was in process of construction and the village was laid out upon its proposed line between 1833 and 1834. Settlers followed the line of the National Road rapidly and soon filled up the town. Lyman Terrell first named the Village Carthage but when he was told that it was the highest point between Jacksontown and Columbus he renamed it Etna after the famous volcano in Sicily. High Point Park pays homage to Etna's 1000+ foot elevation. Read more about Etna's history at: http://www.etnatownship.com/history.php
