[ITA] BAVENO E I SUOI RIONI
Baveno sorge nel punto più panoramico del Lago Maggiore, fra le colline degradanti verso la riva e la distesa azzurra delle acque, dinanzi alla radiosa visione delle isole Borromee. Questa pregevole posizione fa della città un’interessante meta turistica, grazie anche alla sua ricchezza di ville, angoli pittoreschi e giardini che diffondono la fragranza di deliziosi profumi.
La Loita è la frazione più alta di Baveno, dove il raccolto nucleo si è sviluppato seguendo il corso dell’omonimo rio con minuscole vie chiuse tra edifici in sasso d’impianto medievale. Solo rare tracce degli opifici che sfruttavano l’energia di questo corso d’acqua rimangono a testimonianza di un suo passato preindustriale. La Capra è il monumento di questa frazione, simbologia probabilmente legata all’attività pastorizia dovuta alla vicinanza di alpeggi e boschi dove poter pascolare il bestiame.
Attraverso antichi percorsi di origine romana si giunge invece a Roncaro, frazione che si affaccia sull’Isola dei Pescatori. Il nome deriva dal verbo ‘roncare’ che indica l’azione di dissodare e rendere coltivabili i terreni boschivi. La Rosa dei Venti in pregiati graniti e serizzi di diversi colori è il fulcro di questo abitato, la quale collega la parte antica e le nuove edificazioni. Il Cavedano è il simbolo di Roncaro, un tempo abitato da pescatori il cui sentiero che scendeva al lago sopravvive ancora oggi.
Romanico è la frazione d’antica vocazione agricola e quella più vicina al centro di Baveno. Il nome indica per alcuni un insediamento longobardo, mentre per altri l’origine è romana, testimoniata da una necropoli rinvenuta nel 1868. Il tratto di strada che conduce a Romanico è oggi caratterizzato da ville signorili sette-novecentesche in stile neoclassico e liberty. Il monumento alla Castagna ricorda il passato di questa frazione quando ancora era circondata da fertili castagneti.

[ENG] BAVENO AND ITS RIONI
Baveno is located on the most scenic spot of Lake Maggiore, between hills sloping towards the shore and this blue expanse of water, with a breathtaking view on the Borromean Islands. This favoured position makes the town an interesting tourist destination, also thanks to its wealth of villas, picturesque corners and gardens that spread the fragrance of delightful scents.
Loita is the most elevated hamlet in Baveno, whose cosy centre was built following the brook of the same name with tiny alleys nestled between medieval stone buildings. Only traces of the factories which used the energy of this stream remain as evidence of the hamlet’s pre-industrial past. The Goat is the monument of this rione, a symbol probably linked to livestock farming that was made possible by the proximity to pastures and woods, where livestock could graze.
Ancient routes of Roman origin lead instead to Roncaro, a hamlet overlooking the Isola dei Pescatori ('Fishermen’s Island'). The name is derived from the Italian verb ‘roncare’, which refers to the actions of ploughing and turning woodlands tillable. The Wind Rose made of fine granites and gneisses of different colours is the hub of this rione, which links the old town to new constructions. The Chub is the symbol of Roncaro, once inhabited by fishermen whose path leading down to the lake still survives today.
Romanico is the hamlet of ancient agricultural vocation and the closest to Baveno's town centre. For some, the name suggests a Lombard settlement, while for others a necropolis discovered in 1868 is evidence of its Roman origin. These day, the stretch of road that leads to Romanico is characterised by 18th and 20th century stately villas in Neoclassical and Art Nouveau style. The monument to the Chestnut recalls the past of this rione, when it was still surrounded by fruitful chestnut groves.
