Follow in Dorothy’s footsteps as she traveled through the five regions that make up the Land of Oz: Munchin Country, Gillikin Country, Quadling Country, Winkie Country, and the Emerald City. Each of these five caches will provide you with one of the missing numbers in the final’s coordinates, but you will need 6 numbers to find the final. The sixth cache, Silver Shoes, will provide the last number needed and thus allow you to cross over the desert lands surrounding Oz and get back home!

This series is in the beautiful Avery Preserve in Ledyard, CT. All of the hides are placed along the well-marked orange loop trail and most require various degrees of mild bushwacking. Several of the caches are along a rock wall, but you will never need to move a stone to find or retrieve those! In the interest of full disclosure, I gave all of the caches the attributes “poison ivy” and “thorns” because you will encounter both over the course of the series. However, they are sparse and quite navigable; just pay attention to where you’re putting your feet! I’ve hiked it many times in shorts and always left without a scratch.
