En magiker står på en scen. Framför sig har hen tre hattar: en rosa, en blå och en orange. I hattarna ligger totalt 1000 kort. Varje kort har ett heltal mellan 1 och 1000 skrivet på sig och ligger alla med siffersidan neråt. Varje tal finns med på något kort så alla kort är olika.
Magikern blundar och ber samtidigt en person ur publiken att komma upp på scen och plocka upp totalt två kort, ett kort från en viss hatt och ett annat kort från en annan hatt.
Personen ur publiken berättar att summan av de två talen är 1024. Magikern säger då, säker på sin sak, helt korrekt att korten kom från den blå och den rosa hatten.
Magikern ber en annan ur publiken att komma och göra samma sak, att ta ett kort från en hatt och ett till kort från en annan hatt. Personen berättar för den åter igen blundande magikern att summan är 32. Magikern utbrister: korten kom från den blå och den orangea hatten!
Magikern ber ytterligare en annan ur publiken att komma och göra samma sak. Personen berättar för den åter igen blundande magikern att summan är 666. Magikern utbrister: korten kom från den rosa och den orangea hatten! Publiken applåderar helt galna av förundran och glädje!

A magician is standing on a stage. In front of nem are three hats: one rosa, one blå and one orange. In the hats there are in total 1000 cards. Each an every one of the cards has an integer between 1 and 1000 written on it and all of them are lying with the number side downwards. Each number is represented on some card which makes all the cards unique.
The magician closes nirs eyes and asks for one member of the audience to enter the stage. The person from the audience is to pick up in total two cards, one card from one of the hats and one card from another hat.
The person from the audience then reveals the sum of the two numbers to be 1024. The magician then flawlessly says, absolutely sure of nemself, that the cards came from the blå hat and the rosa hat.
The magician next asks for another volunteer to enter the stage and do the same, to pick one card from one hat and one card from another hat, and afterwards sum the two numbers. The person tells the magician, who has not yet opened nir eyes, that sum is 32. "The cards came from the blå and orange hats" the magician exclaims!
The magician asks a third member from the audience to join nem on the stage. The audience member tells the magician that the sum is 666. The magician shouts: you picked the cards from the rosa hat and orange hat!otally mesmerized by the performance they just witnessed, the audience rapt with delight and wonderment applauds the magician.
