Geocache Description:

Congratulations Whidden on your FTF!

******************************

Kejimakujik lake has been used for many years by different groups of people. It was originally a hunting and fishing area for aboriginal peoples and later was used for the same thing by Sportsmen from along the Atlantic Coast.

The most famous of the lodges was Kedgemakooge lodge, built on a hill on what is known as Jim Charles Point. It was begun in 1908 and opened to guests in 1909

Other cabins and outfitters used the lake as well. There was an operation at Merrymakege Beach that operated a number of cabins and Rogers Cabins operated at Jakes Landing. The Rogers Cabins were for a number of years the home of the Nova Scotia Guides meets, where professional guides would meet to test their woodsman skills against each other for the honour of being called the Bull of the Woods.

With  the lack of roads hindering access to the lodges, many arrived at their destination by differing means. Some came by automobile from Halifax or beyond. Others took the train from New England to Halifax then to Caledonia. Others made the Journey by boat to the Bay of Fundy then by vehicle to the area. What they all had in common was that each and every one of them cam to the lake through Grafton Road and that road ended at Jakes Landing..

From Jakes Landing a boat would take them and their luggage to their destination on the shores of Kejimakujik Lake.

Grafton Road was for many years the gateway to Keji, and it was used until the land was taken over by the federal government to create Kejimakujik National Park starting in 1964.

Today you are walking in the footsteps of aboriginal peoples and sportsmen from down through the ages.
