Geocachers who have read about our CMC series meanwhile know we've been coming to this area for over 4 decades. I was 2 years old when I first came to Denia with my family. We consider it as our second home, and it truly feels like coming home everytime we're here. You'd think we'd fully know the area from our pocket by now, having spent 40+ vacations here. Well, we don't. Geocaching made me discover so many wonderful places, now with my family of my own: my husband and my kids. Having discovered geocaching we all of a sudden had a reason to challenge the heat. We had a purpose to go hiking in the hinterland. The mountains and villages and ancient remains are just breathtaking. A big thank you to all CO's for creating and maintaining all these caches and thus enriching our holidays with new experiences and knowledge about the area.
What a prelude to a cache description
I know. Back to this new cache now. In June 2016 I was in Denia with just my two lovely sisters Anja and Els, and our mom Micheline. Els and I decided to go biking, we especially wanted to take pictures on the CV-724 (the Carretera de Alcalí a la Playa), the main connection road between Nova Dénia and La Xara. We must have passed this road for thousands of times. And always we loved the views to the castle of Denia and the Montgó on the one side and the mountain sierras on the other side. And also the old walls and vegetation of the fincas that are situated on both sides of the road.
Anyway, Els and I were biking that road and in the sharp bend all of a sudden I discovered this tiny sign 'Torre Carrals'. 'Have you ever known about a tower here?', I asked my sister. She hadn't. So off we went to the Torre Carrals. And what a lovely discovery! This sturdy watchtower has been standing there for almost 500 years. It was built in the 16th century. Unbelievable that in over 40 years we have never known about it. Okay, this is a discovery by ourselves just biking in the area. It had nothing to do with geocaching. But I immediately thought: 'I have to share this place with other geocachers. It is simply too lovely not to do'.
1.5 month later I am in Denia again, now with my 2 kids. And here it is, a new White LIons cache: 'Alrededor de la Torre Carrals'. I decided to hide 2 caches around the Torre Carrals. One themed 'fauna' and another themed 'flora'. My son Wolf helped me to hide the caches. [Dankjewel Wolfje!
]. The fauna cache is really close to the watchtower.
The only 'wildlife' I spotted during both times I was here are actually snails, heaped in impressive amounts on fences in full sunlight. I still wonder: are they dead or just 'sleeping', waiting for the rain to fall... Anyway, if you watch carefully, there is a lot more wildlife to be spotted!
I dedicate this cache to my sister Els, with whom I discovered this lovely place. Hope you enjoy it too!
