Geocache Description:

Early Goldenrod is one of many species of Golderods. Five types: "Plumelike, graceful; Elmbranched; Clublike, showy; Wandlike, slender; Flattopped." This one is plumelike. Many species in each category. By the Fishponds on Niemi Rd.

Solidago, commonly called goldenrods, is a genus of about 100 to 120 species of flowering plants in the aster family, Asteraceae. Most are herbaceous perennial species found in open areas such as meadows, prairies, and savannas. They are mostly native to North America, including Mexico; a few species are native to South America and Eurasia. Some American species have also been introduced into Europe and other parts of the world.

Early Golderod

Solidago juncea, the early goldenrod, plume golden-rod, or yellow top, is North American species of herbaceous plants perennial of the sunflower family native to eastern and central Canada and the eastern and central United States. It grows from Nova Scotia west to Manitoba and Minnesota south as far as northern Georgia and northern Arkansas, with a few isolated populations in Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Solidago juncea is a perennial herb up to 120 cm (4 feet) tall, spreading by means of underground rhizomes. Leaves around the base of the plant can be as much as 30 cm (1 foot) long, the leaves getting smaller higher on the stem. One plant can produce as many as 450 small yellow flower heads in a large, showy array.

Solidago juncea is often grown in gardens as an ornamental.

The fish ponds are part of the Cornell Limnology Department. I have tried to search on line for more information, without success.  If you know anything about them, please mention it in a log.

The cache is a tied in, camoed, small, "small" pill bottle. It has 2 arrows on top, which means Push hard to open and close. It holds a rolled log with a rubber band and a plastic bag. Please BYOP, no tweezers and put everthing back as you found it or better..
