All the World's a Stage Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ninja Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Historic Abbeville! Almost every town in America boasts the title of historic so this is our way of proving it.

The cache is not at the listed coordinates. The listed coordinates will take you to the site of the first clue. When you park on the square you will find several markers and monuments. After getting clues from our favorites you will be led to the physical geocache. Depending on time of day, this area has many muggles but most people are accustomed to tourists walking around and taking pictures so you should fit right in.

A: Major Howie is a native of South Carolina whose house is preserved still today. He fought and died in World War II at Normandy. He was so loved by his troops that his body was strapped to the hood of their jeep as they liberated the town of St. Lo so that he would have the honor of being the first to enter the city. What battalion was he a member of? You will use this number twice for the letter A.

B: Robert McGowan Hill was Mayor of our town for a number of years. How long was he mayor? Use his bell in the square to find the answer to letter B.

C: When Abbeville was first founded, horses were a common choice for transportation. The Humane Society Alliance funded 125 fountains to be used for horses, as well as other pets, to drink from. The Abbeville fountain is one of very few still in its original position since 1912. In tons, how much does it weigh? This will give you the answer to letter C.

D: Abbeville likes to keep its stores in preserved condition of an earlier time in history. In this spot was a mercantile store my grandfather used to visit. How many letters are in the first name of the old store. That is the answer to D.

E. The Abbeville Opera House is a popular stop for locals and visitors alike. This building has been here since 1908 and hosted a variety of famous names, shows, and styles of entertainment. In what year did "moving picture" start playing at the Opera House alongside stage shows. Only use the last two numbers.

F: John C. Calhoun was a national politician from Abbeville county. He started as a member of Congress in 1811 and held various political positions until 1850. One year, he did not hold an office. When you have discovered the year, add the digits together and use the last digit for F. An example, if he did not hold an office in 1992 the digits added together would be 21 so you would only use the number one.

G: Abbeville's most visited church in Trinity Episcopal Church. It's Gothic construction began in 1859 making it the oldest church in Abbeville. They still offer services and the gate stays open and unlocked so people can walk around the grounds. In order to answer G, find the height of the steeple, add the digits together and use half of that amount. An example, if the steeple is 33 feet tall, I would add and come up with six and half of that would be three.
