To get to the parking, turn right off Rt 1 (if you're heading south) at the signs for the Indian River Marina and Delaware Seashore State Park, just before the bridge. At the yield sign, bear right. Follow the short dirt road past the last marina building and you're at the trailhead parking.

Description:
Burton’s Island is the largest island in an archipelago of small islands that separates Rehoboth Bay from Indian River Bay, just behind the barrier beach of Delaware Seashore State Park.

Delaware State Parks (www.destateparks.com) describes Burton Island Trail:
This loop trail begins at the causeway on the north end of the marina and travels over a packed and loose sandy surface through upland forests and over elevated boardwalks. The boardwalks provide views of the Indian River Bay, the Rehoboth Bay, and of the open salt marsh. The island features an inland bay habitat that supports a variety of birds, plants, fish, reptiles, and mammals.

Please note: Please stay on the trail while visiting the island. The island provides important nesting grounds for the Diamondback Terrapin. Trail use is recommended during the cooler months of the year.
