Route 88 - Sign of the Times Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

lefthanded99: The original philosophy behind the Route 88 caches was to provide an introduction to geocaching. They were all easy terrain caches, in a variety of different types, which could be found by absolute novices.

Unfortunately, many of the caches have started going missing frequently, and the task of replacing them has become an expensive one. It is true that each individual cache is quite small and costs only a few pounds, but as I find myself replacing 2 or 3 every week which I pay for out of my own pocket, I have decided that I cannot afford to continue doing so.

Accordingly I have decided that I will not replace any in future. As each cache goes missing it will be archived, beginning with “Sign of the Times”, “What Allot I’ve Got” and “Break Step”, all of which have gone missing in the last few weeks.

Geocache Description:

Sustrans Cycle Route 88 will eventually follow a coastal route from Caerleon to Margam Country Park near Port Talbot. At this point it passes close to the entrance to Caerleon Comprehensive School. The route is tarmac-covered and wheelchair/buggy friendly, although wheelchair-users would have difficulty with some of the retrieves.

A micro cache, magnetically attached. This road leads to the entrance to Caerleon Comprehensive School and can be busy at school start and finish periods.

Be sure to take time to look at the Roman remains that are all around this part of Caerleon.

All outdoor activities carry an element of risk. You assume ALL responsibility for your safety when you are geocaching.
In some parts of Route 88 there is deep water and marshland close by. Do not try to feed or pet farm animals in fields close to the path as they may not be friendly.
