The street is named after Hang Jebat, companion of the legendary Malaccan hero Hang Tuah, well known for his rebellion against the Malacca Sultan whom he served.
After Hang Tuah was sentenced to death, Hang Jebat took possession of the Taming Sari kris, a weapon formerly used by Hang Tuah. Hang Jebat turned against the ruler to avenge his friend's death, but no one knew that Hang Tuah was being kept alive in a remote area.
With the kris, Hang Jebat became invincible and the sultan was unable to stop him as he went on a palace killing spree.
But when the Sultan found out that Hang Tuah was still alive, he forgave him on the condition that he killed Hang Jebat. The battle lasted seven days, before Hang Tuah finally stabbed and killed Hang Jebat.
During the battle, Hang Jebat famously exlaimed "Raja adil raja disembah, raja zalim raja disanggah" meaning "A fair king is a king to salute, a cruel king is a king to rebel against".
Jalan Hang Jebat is home to another mighty warrior - the spectacular rain tree, which was given heritage staus by Singapore National Parks in 2005.
Find the cache somewhere in the vast shadow of the tree. And beware of snakes - this area is known for its population of Equatorial Black Spitting Cobra. Make lots of noise.
The cache contains a few items that tiny warriors would find useful. Leave your own toy sword, sheild, kris or warrior memorablia to make this cache an even more interesting find. The cache is less than 10cm x 10cm, so please bring very small items.
The cache is managed by residents on the street - please let us know of any problems so that we can head up and do some quick maintenance.
3 Oct, 2016: Thanks to @modacosta for the headsup. Log now replaced with new dry one. Old log dried out and folded in cache.
Also worth a visit, the mosque at the end of the road and the gateway to the Green Corridor, the former KTM railway line, which connected Tanjong Pagar in the south with Woodlands in the north.
