Geocache Description:

This location was a ray of light (literally!) for the pit ponies and donkies working in the nearby pits.  They used to come up here and spend some time in this area as respite from the dark dusty conditions they normally lived in.  An easy cache here from me to replace the long gone puzzle. I have pondered the item here, and i can't help but think that spelling should actually be "peace" given the useage of the spot.

This was the site of a previous cache, but not before i was eying it up for a cache myself, they just beat me to it!  So here's the cache i was planning to put in all those years ago. After the play on words of that cache title, we have more wordplay, and a random connection to that unforgettable track by10cc.

Isn't it a bit busy for a bit of RnR?

When the ponies were here enjoying their little bit of freedom, the road layout here was a little different.  Awsworth bypass wasn't there, and the road from this little green down to where the island stands at the bottom of the hill was just a dirt track which passed under railway line that served Awsworth Station.

The main route through the village was down the hill then down the road behind The Donkey Piece, past The Gate Inn and up to the bottom of Mawes Lane Kimberley.  That road is still there buit the A610 now sits across that route leaving just a pedestrian tunnel for access through.

For more info on pit ponies (the last one finishing duty in the UK in 1999 so not so long ago!) have a look at this site here
