Geocache Description:

This cache is located just off the road, nestled snuggly in a large totara tree.

Look at nature through new eyes. Take time to explore your relationship with nature and enjoy its benefits – connecting with nature is good for us. Papatūānuku’s wellbeing is our wellbeing.

The forest just across the road, is home to the most northern population of the pepeketua/Hochstetter's frog, one of our native frogs which is extremely sensitive to disturbance and human development, requiring clean water and dense forest growth to survive.  Development has restricted their range immensely since human settlement, however, through protection efforts undertaken not only by DOC, but by community groups and volunteers, this pepeketua is still hanging on.
