"Quinn the Eskimo (Mighty Quinn)" is a 1967 folk-rock song written by Bob Dylan. The song became a hit in 1968 when Manfred Mann released it as a single using the title "Mighty Quinn". The subject of the song is the arrival of the mighty Quinn (an Eskimo), who changes despair into joy and chaos into rest, and attracts attention from the animals. Dylan was getting in touch with his spiritual side during this time period. Many theories arise when the question is asked, “Who is Quinn the Eskimo”. Dylan is widely believed to have derived the title character from actor Anthony Quinn's role as an Eskimo in the 1960 movie The Savage Innocents. There are many other theories. Do the lyrics have a deeper meaning or just word play? You decide. It is always best to go to the source.
