The Stump (Otago) Traditional Cache

When doing a nearby multi I noticed some gaps between the way points. As this is a very pleasant walk I decided that some people might need some encouragement to come this way.

You are looking for an approximately 350ml screw top container containing just a log sheet and pencil. There is no need to take more than a step off the obvious path.

This track is on one of the many paper roads around Dunedin and a walking group identified several of them in the late 1980's and put in stiles where needed, marked and signposted them. The first part by the lagoon crosses private land so please do not bring any dogs. Once you reach the paper road it is a straight run up to the Soldiers Monument by Highcliff Rd. Do enjoy the views.

There are some steep areas as well as some damp spots so do take care especially in winter or after rain. Boots or sturdy shoes are best although in summer walking shoes will generally be ok. The cache itself and the hiding place is nothing special but the walk there makes up for it. A great walk for the kids.
