Geocache Description:

An introduction to geocaching puzzles and the Boucher Forest

There is nothing at the posted coordinates. The cache is less than 1km from the posted coordinates.

This cache has been placed for the Boucher Forest Festival 2016. Please do not search for it before 10:30am on September 17, 2016.

The Boucher forest is the last large wild space in the Aylmer sector.  Despite being an urban forest, its large area (700+ acres) and its proximity to Gatineau Park (3.5 km to the North) have allowed it to remain an important refuge for biodiversity.

To find this geocache, one of many in the forest, you will have to answer a few questions about the forest. These answers will be used to piece together the coordinates of the cache.

  1. How many animal and plant species were inventoried during the three Bio-Blitz events in June 2010, May 2011, and June 2018.
    Call this number A.
  2. The forest contains the largest stand in the National Capital Region of which kind of tree? (----- ------)
Replace each letter with its numerical place in the alphabet (A=1, B=2, etc.) and sum up all the numbers. Call this number B.
  3. How many resident species of birds call the forest their home.
    Call this number C.
  4. Which reptile resident of the Boucher Forest was on the list of vulnerable species identified in a 2007 ecological study? (---- -----)
Replace each letter with its numerical place in the alphabet (A=1, B=2, etc.) and sum up all the numbers. Call this number D.

The cache can be found at N45° 25.(A-8*B+4) W075° 49.(6*C+D+2).

You can check your solution by clicking on the image below.

Please note that the most direct way from the meeting point to the clean-up area is through an off-leash dog park and you might also encounter off-leash dogs in the forest itself.

Cache is a pill bottle and contains only a log book. Bring your own pen.

During certain times of the year parts of the trail to the cache may be flooded, especially after the spring melt.
