Hilltop-Rosenwald Park was suggested for this event by Marty Smith of Smyrna Parks and Recreation. Hilltop is a little community park between Old Nashville Highway and Sam Ridley Parkway off Mason Tucker Road in Smyrna.
"This park is the result of partly donated property and partly purchased by the town for the purpose of building a neighborhood park. Located at 565 Mason Tucker Drive the park is named for its location ( Hilltop ) and after a school (Rosenwald ) that was once located in the area.
This 16 acre park consists of basketball courts, a large shelter, parking, a playground, restroom facility, .5 mile walking trail and picnic areas. The Rosenwald Community Center, which is a multipurpose building located in Hilltop-Rosenwald Park, is a replica of the former Rosenwald School. An exhibit of the history of the school and its activities can be seen inside this building.
The park road is named after Mr. A.D. Washington who was the popular principal of this school and led students in their many activities and education. With the efforts of a strong volunteer-based group, town officials and town staff this park was opened in 2003." (from the park webpage)
We will gather in the parking lot (stated coordinates) at 9:00 a.m. for a little chit chat and donuts as we wait for the stragglers to arrive. Assignments will be made based on individual desire for difficulty--there are the open grounds around the basketball courts, picnic tables, and playground equipment (1.5/1.5) or the one-half mile greenway trail that has trash close by and deeper into the wooded area (2.5/2.5). If we have a sizable crowd, it should only take about an hour (I have scheduled 2 hours.) to clean the park. Please wear appropriate clothing and bring your gloves and pick-up sticks. Trash bags and water will be provided. Trash bags will be deposited by the restroom trash container (picture to be taken, of course).
