We were driving along looking for caches and discoverd this unique treasure on the outskirts of Yale, Illinois. Here is the story behind the mug tree: the owner began trimming branches of the tree but didn't want to get rid of the tree completely so he came up with the idea to hang mugs on display. Before long people from all over were stopping to take pictures of this unusual display. So, he came up with the mug swap. If you bring an unwantd coffee mug with you, you may hang it on the tree and take a mug that you like. He also placed an old mailbox beside the tree and placed a logbook inside. He encourages visitors to sign the book so he can enjoy reading who his visitors are and where they come from. This is a fun attraction so enjoy!
