If you want to know more about the history behind cache, you can read the images below. Big thanks to the Tuolumne County Historical Society for letting me use the articles below.

Charles Goelz is the man responsible for bringing some of the first automobiles into Tuolumne county, but before that he made and sold candy from Sonora’s Elite Candy Store. It’s a good thing Mr. Goelz didn’t have much of a sweet tooth otherwise he might not have discovered his true calling: the horseless carriage. Back in the day you needed to get to San Francisco by horse, train or stage coach to buy your car. This could take days and could prove to be a hazardous journey depending on your mode of travel. If you could afford it, you could send someone in your place to go and buy you a car and bring it back. Which is exactly what Golez was sent to do, driving the counties first car back on April 8, 1905. Then the second on the 29th of the same month, and the third, and fourth. He would also teach the new owners how to drive these new fangled contraptions and offered himself as a chauffeur to those who preferred not to learn. Gomez went on to open his own garage and had some of the counties first Ford Model-T cars shipped here via train. In the article below you can see Mr. Goelz behind the wheel of his 1906 Reo on this very road which coincidently was also the first road in the county to be paved.
