The Grey Crowned Crane (Balearica regulorum) is a fairly common, but threatened, resident of the region. Unmistakable owing to the striking orange crest it can be seen from this hide at almost any time of the year.
Apart from cranes there are numersous other birds that can be seen from this hide if you are quiet and patient.
The hide is within the Karkloof Conservancy and a small voluntary fee is asked for admission.
