Please note that, as of 27th October 2016, TACT 03 has been moved. If you have not downloaded the cache since this date, you need to refresh the data on your GPS
Please read all of the information below as this is a master cache description. There is stuff in here that relates to the whole series while the descriptions on the other caches are brief and generic though some do have specific passages written in bold that pertain to the individual caches concerned.
Note: Quite a lot of the caches in this series are allocated a size rating of micro when some might call them small. These are cylindrical 120 ml pots. However some of the "micros" are smaller.
At TCP1 waypoint in Hornshill Lane, which joins Guildford Road (A281) to the east of, and Loxwood Road to the southwest of Tisman’s Common, there is a bit of roadside verge substantial enough for the parking of 2 or 3 cars . This is the recommended parking area. Food and drink are available nearby.
The routes of the walk are all along well-marked footpaths and bridleways, though - especially in winter - some sections can get muddy.
The series has been laid out in what can very loosely be described as a figure of eight, making possible its division into 2 walks in case any of you don't have time to do a 4 hour + walk in one outing. This will of course mean a little extra walking (just over a mile, say 1.7 km) to return to TCP1 from the junction of footpaths between TC14 and TC15, to be repeated in reverse on your return to complete the series.
From TCP1, the walk heads off in a westerly direction up Barnsfold Lane (unmade road), using this cache as a direction marker, then swings north past some houses to an intersection with an un-named lane where you turn left before reaching TC02. Please be discrete along this part of the walk, for TC01-TC03, where residents are not used to seeing a lot of walkers let alone geocachers.
In the second half of the walk, you will follow a short section of the Sussex Border Path and through the grounds of the Japanese Rikkyo School in England. There are, of course, no caches hidden on the school grounds and we would ask you please to stay on the line of the footpath during this part of the walk between TC24 and TC25.
There is another potential access point to the series which you may wish to consider. This is indicated by parking waypoint TCP2, but our recommendation is to use TCP1 and you will definitely wish to use TCP1 if you think you might run short of time and want to split the walk in two.
There is a bonus cache for completing the series. In order to locate and log the bonus cache you will need to collect data from the other caches in the series. See the Bonus cache GC6T4KW for details TACT Bonus
.
OK so you've read this far patiently and we suppose you might just be wondering "Why on earth is this series called TACT?" Well, we thought about calling it 'Tismans', but that was too obvious. Then we thought why not call it 'TAT' (being The Ant's Trail), but that seemed a bit risky :-) So finally, as we needed to go to bed at some point, we settled on "TACT", being "The AnTs' Caching Trail . So now you know, but are none the wiser.
Enjoy the walk!
