Geocache Description:

The Tintern railway tunnel is part of the old Wye Valley Railway, which was opened in 1876, and closed in 1964.

This old railway line is part of a beautiful walk along the Wye Valley now, and this is placed opposite the old Tintern Abbey.  There are discussions to re-open the tunnel, and build a footpath at the North end, so that the footpath can be extended along the riverside for future generations to enjoy.

Beautiful old architecture and stonework can be found along this path, and the tunnel itself is a haunting reminder of the beauty and majesty of the age of steam.

This geocache was created and placed by the Tintern Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade.

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of the West England Forestry Commission.
