La mulattiera
La mulattiera Porto-Castello è un sentiero che porta dalla località di Giglio Porto a quella di Giglio Castello e viceversa. E' una delle vie più antiche dell'isola e ha questo nome poichè veniva percorsa dai muli che trasportavano materiali e prodotti agricoli da una parte all'altra.
Salendo dal Porto, la prima parte del sentiero si svolge all'interno di un bosco ed è quindi ben ombreggiata, mentre la seconda parte è scoperta e man mano che si sale si potrà godere di una bellissima vista dall'alto sul porto e sulle sottostanti zone di Punta Gabbianara e della spiaggia dell'Arenella. La pavimentazione del sentiero è costituita in gran parte da grossi ciottoli e in alcuni tratti è sconnesso, per questo non è consigliato per bikers e per persone con mobilità ridotta o con passeggini; potete farlo invece con bambini a seguito per raggiungere il Castello senza prendere l'autobus o il taxi.

Se prendete il sentiero dal Porto, potete raggiungere l'inizio del sentiero (Waypoint T0) percorrendo Via del Castello (1 km circa ma molto in salita) o tramite la Via Provinciale (1,7 km), eventualmente tagliando per Via dell'Asilo (1,5 km), evitando così di fare il tratto in salita molto ripida di Via del Castello, ma aumentando la distanza percorsa. La salita dal Porto al Castello lungo la mulattiera dura circa 45 minuti.
Se prendete il sentiero dal Castello invece, l'inizio è a pochi metri dal capolinea dell'autobus in Piazza Gloriosa (Waypoint T1) e la discesa verso il Porto dura circa mezz'ora.
Il sentiero non è particolarmente impegnativo, e può essere perciò percorso anche dai camminatori meno esperti, è lungo circa 1,4 km con un dislivello complessivo di 260 m.

The mule track
The "Porto-Castello" mule track is a path that leads from the town of Giglio Porto to that of Giglio Castello and vice versa. It is one of the oldest streets on the island and has this name because it was used by mules carrying materials and agricultural products from one side to the other.
Going up from the Port, the first part of the path takes place inside a wood and is therefore well shaded, while the second part is uncovered and as you go up you can enjoy a beautiful view from above over the Port and the underlying areas of Punta Gabbianara and the Arenella beach. The paving of the path consists largely of large pebbles and is bumpy in some sections, which is why it is not recommended for bikers and people with reduced mobility or with strollers; you can instead do it with children in tow, to reach the Castle without taking the bus or taxi.

If you take the path from the Port, you can reach the beginning of the path (Waypoint T0) along "Via del Castello" (about 1 km but very uphill) or via the "Via Provinciale" (1.7 km), possibly cutting into "Via dell'Asilo" (1.5 km), thus avoiding the very steep uphill section of "Via del Castello", but increasing the distance travelled. The ascent from the Port to the Castle along the mule track takes about 45 minutes.
If you take the path from the Castle instead, the beginning is a few meters from the bus terminus in "Piazza Gloriosa" (Waypoint T1) and the descent towards the Port takes about half an hour.
The path is not particularly demanding, and can therefore also be ran by less experienced walkers, it is about 1.4 km long with an overall height difference of 260 m.
