Manchester's only entry for 'Visit England's - 100 places to visit in England before you die' - The John Rylands Library is a late-Victorian neo-Gothic building that is even more impressive inside than it is on the outside. Dont be fooled by the original main entrance which is permanently closed, head around the side and you will find the new, glass entrance open between 10:00 - 17:00. This building looks like Sauron's Tower in Mordor from Lord of the Rings on the outside, but venture indoors and you will see a Harry Potter-esque labryrinth of gothic arched walkways, eerily lit by candleabras andone of the world’s richest and most unique collections of books - around 1.4 million items spanning over five thousand years and derived from all corners of the world. Guided tours are available daily.  The library, which opened to the public in 1900, was founded by Enriqueta Augustina Rylands in memory of her husband, John Rylands.

This cache is located outside the building and is accessible any time of day or night - wheelchair accessible.
