Take some time to turn off Waterfall Way to have a picnic, explore Hillgrove village and learn some of its history. This cache introduces you to Hillgrove Cemetery, a Heritage Victorian cemetery, in a very peaceful location.
Hillgrove Cemetery was nearly destroyed in a major out of control grass fire that swept the area back in 1905. Unfortunately there were insufficient funds in the then Hillgrove Council coffers to do anything about retoring the dameaged fences and grave furnishings. The cemetery has since become overgrown and much of its original character and structure has been lost. On the up side, there are a number of rare species of plants and trees among the regrowth and in season is a riot of bush orchids.
