Geocache Description:

In 1952 a10-foot treated timber tower with a standard Aladdin hip-roof lookout house was constructed on Crane Mountain. This tower replaced the one on Willow Point about a mile away.  They moved the garage from Willow Point over to Crane Mt. Crane Mtn Lookout was removed in 1972. This lookout had a incredible 360 degree view!! Elevation 8,347'.

The drive to this lookout site is quite interesting! The best way is go up Hwy 140 east from Hwy 395 to slightly past MP 8 to a cross road. The road to the left is Warner Road. Go to the right on the road marked "Willow Creek CG". This road is paved for about 3 miles then becomes gravel (Rd #3915). In about 7 miles turn onto Rd 4011. This road goes all the way to the top. The last couple of miles are very rough! High clearance, good tires and 4x4! Lots of rocks and several tight switchbacks. Please be aware this cache is at 8300 plus feet of elevation. There are sheer cliffs in the vicinity, If you bring children or pets on this hunt please keep them in your vehicle.

The cache is a regular size container that can withstand the elements. Placed just off the side of the lookout pad (on the safe side). Suggest parking in the turnaround spot about 150' from the top as it is very tight on the top with the 4 concrete blocks. We suggest you look for this cache on a very clear day so you can enjoy the spectacular views. The day we were here the mountain was enshrouded in clouds though the valley below was clear.
