Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of response to one or more prior Reviewer Note(s) about issue(s) with the cache and because the Cache Owner has not been online since October 2016. Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

Not your simple park find, this cache was placed with some creativity. Hope you have fun and learn something along the way. Take caution in searching for this cache as it will put you under falling "sausages". When you find what your looking for hold tight and dont let go.

There are only few of these unique trees planted along the Akoni Pule Highway in the Northern Part of Hawaii Island. I have come to learn they are called South African Sausage Trees. The names says it all, the flowers of these trees are beautiful and bloom in the evenings before transforming into these long "sausage" looking fruits. The flowers have adapted to blooming in the evening as they are a favored tree of bats. In Hawaii there is a rare speicies of bats that call the Big Island home. These trees in there native lands are a common gathering place, I would assume they were planted here in North Kohala to help accomodate Hawaiis species of bats. The fruit itself is poisonous to humans, however many animals in Africa found these fruits as a source of food.
