Geocache Description:

Learn about two important historic buildings in downtown Fairmont

This cache is more difficult than other mystery caches I have done in that you will not find the answers to the questions on line. There are two main ways to find the answers: 1) physically go to the locations & 2) do some reseach at the library... Yes, you will have to read a book to get answers for this cache (OMG).

So, the posted coordinates for this cache will take you to building #1. Building #2 will have to be researched to find out what it is and where it is located. (building #2 is within several blocks of building #1)

BUILDING #2 FACTS:

This building was originally a Post Office. The architect, Joseph Taylor Knox, is named on the cornerstone and also helped design the West Virginia State Capital, as well as those in Arkansas and Minnesota. The structure is Neo-classical in style with Roman arched windows flanking a Roman arched entrance. The Post office was housed here from 1911 through the early 1940's. (To find answers for building #2 see reference book at the Marion County Library - "Related Web Page" for hours)

A = the number of columns on left side minus the number of columns on the right side of building #1.

B = the number of columns on the front of building #1 divided by 3.

C = the date building #2 had a public inspection on June 2C, 1914, before it offically opened.

X = the number of Seth Thomas clocks furnished in building #2 at its completion.

Y = the number of round roof-top windows at the rear of building #2.

Z = the number of "griffins" at the base of a lamp post in front of building #2.
