< Tateba >
Tateba is a facilty on the old "Edo Five Routes" that were developed by the Tokugawa shogunate (feudal military government) in 17th century. When, on the Edo Five Routes, the next shukuba (= post station) was a little too far from the previous one, or when there was a tough part to walk such as a pass with steep slopes between shukubas, a place for rest was officially created or spontaneously formed. This was caled a Tateba.
< Yozaka-Tateba-ato (former site of Yozaka-tateba) >There is a steep slope called Yozaka between Nakatsugawa-juku and Ochiai-juku. Once there was a cafe named Echizen-ya searving tea and sweets here a the top of Yozaka slope. Echizen-ya served San-mon-mochi, a rice cake with simmered brown sugar, and it sold very well as a specialty of Yozaka. Thus it has been told Echizen-ya bcame so rich that there happened an unsubstantiated rumour that gold must sprang out from Echizen-ya's well.

中津川宿から落合宿までの中山道を歩きましょう。
＜立場について＞
立場（たてば）とは、江戸時代の五街道に設けられた施設です。
街道沿いで次の宿場町が遠いときにその途中に、また峠のような難所がある場合にその難所に、休憩施設として設けられたものが立場です。
藩が設置したもの、周辺住民の手で自然発生したものなど、さまざまな立場があったそうです。
＜与坂立場跡について＞
三五沢から落合宿に向かう途中に与坂という急な坂があります。その昔、この坂の頂きに越前屋という茶屋があり、三文餅を売っていました。米粉のお餅に黒砂糖を煮詰めたものをぬったもので、与坂の名物としてよく売れたそうです。そのため、「越前屋の裏の井戸から黄金が湧き出る」という噂が広がったほど、と伝えられています。
