10 am to until we're done

Cedar Breaks is the little sibling of Zion and Bryce. Being much smaller than those parks and a monument instead of a park, it is often overlooked for both funds and volunteers. As the cachers of Utah, let's give Cedar Breaks a birthday present for the 100th celebration of the National Park System.

What We're Doing

They need help cleaning up a new ADA accessible trail. The contractor has poured the concrete and done the technical building; they need us to make it look nice. There may be some painting. They also need help doing some spot repairs on the boundary fence used for wildlife control. If you can wield a rake, you can help. A couple people will also be needed to run supplies to the working groups.

What to Bring

Cedar Breaks is at 10,000 feet. It's late October. Though our physical labor will help keep us warm, be sure to wear enough layers. Bring work gloves. I will have some available to borrow as well. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and if there is painting, getting paint on. Those who want to hike the boundary fence should bring water as you won't be as easy to get to with supplies

Meeting Place

The posted coordinates are for the Cedar Breaks Visitor Center where we will meet with the monument staff at 10 am. The ADA accessible trail where we will be working is also visible from there making it easy for latecomers to find us.

At 9 am anyone who wants to carpool from Cedar City to Cedar Breaks can meet at the parking lot for Canyon Park, West Side. See additional waypoints for coordinates. The caravan will depart no later than 9:15 am. If you want to ride with us, please mention it in your "Will Attend" log.

Inclement Weather Plan

It is possible that there will be enough snow fall to make Cedar Breaks inaccessible. We won't know that until Friday night or the morning of the event. It will be the decision of the monument staff not mine to cancel. I will post an announcement here as soon as I know. Please be sure to post a "Will Attend" or place a watch on this event so you will get the announcement.

Should the staff deem the monument is inaccessible, we will still have a trash pick-up CITO at the "Plan B" reference point in Additional Waypoints.

I hope you can join us for a fun day of doing something good for the NPS on the occasion of their 100th anniversary!
