Legend has it that sometime before the first millenium, when a pestilence had invaded this part of the land, Naclan (afterwards St Nachlan), a priest or Culdee who ministered in the area, made the circuit of the boundaries of the parish of Meldrum on his knees, beseeching the Almighty that the pestilence might be averted and the people of his charge saved from its scourge. The effort cost him his own life and his pious soul left his exhausted body at this place. His staff marking the spot took root and a succession of trees have been maintained and known as the Parcock Tree.
The footpath leads down in to the town - keep left to head for the Distillery. This cache is close to GC2NKXW which in turn takes you past a new viewpoint, which is well worth a visit for a fantastic vista.
