畳平の標高は2,702 mで、日本最高所の路線バスのバス停があります。乗鞍スカイライン・エコーラインの終点であり、観光バスやタクシーが駐停車する駐車場があります。高山植物のお花畑には木道の遊歩道が整備され観光スポットとなっています。畳平へのペットの持ち込みは禁止されています。ここにはバス・タクシー・自転車・徒歩で来ることはできますが自家用車で来ることはできません。 冬の間は通行止めになります。 キャッシュはバスターミナルの建物に隠してあります。 ペンは入っていませんので用意してください。
