The name of the cache is Future Flight, because this person has a long family history of military service, specifically the United States Air Force, where he served until retirement. This location is significant for many reasons, and his love of flight, space, and history all inspired me to place this cache here. This location seems like a great spot to mark the beginning of a journey with flight plans yet to be determined, as this individual enters a “new phase of life”. I have included a penny in the container for good luck for the FTF, symbolizing the coin that was tossed by the Wright Brothers in 1903 to see who would first test the Wright Flyer. Interesting tidbit: when aeronautical pioneer Neil Armstrong became the first man to step foot on the moon in 1969, he took with him a piece of the muslin fabric from the upper left wing as well as a piece of wood from the left propeller of the Wright Brothers’ original 1903 Wright Flyer.
My hope is that people who come to search for this cache will take time to look at the beautiful Alabama River and reflect on the rich history of our country, honoring the individuals who dared to take chances; and consider the possibilities of our own “future flights.” For my special friend………… Keep flying High in the future
