In Kildare, all stations are operated on a retained basis. This means that when an emergency fire call is received, fire fighters are only then alerted to the call. The numbers of fire fighters in each station range from 8 to 12. A Station Officer manages each station. The Station Officer works on a normal five-day week, whilst also attending fire calls after hours and at weekends. Each station holds a two-hour drill practice each week. This enables firefighters to enhance their training of equipment and procedures.
Fire Tenders and Appliances:
Each station has a minimum of two appliance bays, the first bay houses a standard fire tender with pumps and ladders. This appliance carries a crew of six, the maximum allocated to a fire appliance. The second bay can house either an additional standard tender or a water tanker.
This cache is located in the proximity of the station but out of the way in case of any emergencies.
